CTCon Planning

anime cosplay ctcon
Back to school and getting ready for CTCon.
Yesterday I finally went back to school. It was a relief, really. I was getting really, really sick of doing nothing but online roleplaying all day (oh, it’s immensely fun, don’t get me wrong - I just like my human interaction now and then - and some really funny quotes pop up now and then). Everyone was worried about me and was glad to see me back. And, Kaori-chan mentioned the coolest thing ever - a cosplay event that happens in the winter in Akita. OMG YES. Because I finally decided on next year’s CTCon cosplay (Iruka-sensei from Naruto)…I may just be buying the costume early (too complicated to make, for me).

Transformers Transformed

anime transformers
This blogger doesn't think the film version of The Transformers caught the spirit of the original.
Look, I'm not such a G1 purist that I demand cartoon accurate designs -- but this is just too much! It's too far removed from the essence of Transformers, which has remained more or less intact throughout all incarnations of the series over the past 20 years. And from what has been leaked, the script is about as far off as the character designs are.

Will You Give Up Anime?

anime voltron groupz
A blogger wonders whether he'd give up anime.
Why? I guess it’s all thanks to the perpetual kid in me. The multi-faceted world of anime never fails to amaze me. Japanese animators have this really good knack of bringing all our fantasies to life. Something western cartoons have started to fail in miserably after He-Man and She-Ra. I mean, c’mon. Even the popular “US Cartoons” are actually American dubs of the actual Japanese works: Voltron (Go Lion), Voltron: Vehicle Team (some other mecha anime but not at all related to Go Lion), Transformers and a whole lot more.

Dubs Versus Sub

dragonball z cast
Do you prefer Dragonball Z with subtitles or dubs?
Well, I’ve been posed the question of how I feel about subs versus dubs. In all honesty, I can never watch a dubbed anime and feel good about it again. In my early years of anime watching, the days of Dragonball Z and Toonami on Cartoon Network, I would’ve said something like, “why would you want to read what they’re saying if you can hear it instead?” Naturally, as I’ve become more immersed in the matter, my opinion has become more refined.
