Sakura Con

anime cosplay sokura con
Click through for a list of cosplay costume ideas for next year's Sakura Con.

Speaking of next year, I’ve already decided that I’m going to A) remember to register -early-, since it was cheaper, B) wear a costume at least one day of the three, and C) BUY A FREAKING CAMERA. I haven’t decided who I’d go as, but I have some ideas…

And The Winner Is ...

anime genshiken
... Genshiken.

Ok I haven’t changed the poll in awhile and that’s a bad thing. This may have been brought on by my laziness or unwillingness to accept the truth from the last poll (I kept on prolonging it)! LOL Anyways…the winner was Genshiken by a measly two votes.

Show Me The Showbag

anime yu gi oh backpack
Report from the Sydney Royal Easter Show:

This year's show bags will vary in price from $1 to $20, which sounds reasonable enough until you realise the kid screaming for the must-have Yu-Gi-Oh showbag already has about $100 worth of showbags in both hands. And this doesn't count the rides on the ferris wheel, the hot dogs and fairy floss, and novelty tinsel wigs which have been purchased throughout the day.

Maybe you can just buy a Yu-gi-oh backpack instead.

¡Acaso No Es Suficiente!

anime yu gi oh devil's mirror
Click through for the existential Yu-gi-oh question.

Review: Mao-Chan, Vol. 3

anime mao chan earth defense
Nice write-up on Mao-Chan here.

Why oh why can't "cute" series also have some substance? At least Cardcaptor Sakura had lovable characters and a nifty magical system. This one will probably send today's sophisticated eight-year-olds into a frenzy of sugar-induced vomiting. However, it does come from anime creator Ken Akamatsu, so the visuals are at least interesting and attractive enough. The show, not unlike the Pokemon franchise, was specifically created to appeal to little girls, so the kawaii factor is off the charts and may appeal even to adults on a level they can't explain, justify, or admit. If you've ever wanted to squee when you saw a baby kitten or a cute wittle wabbit, then give this one a shot—you just might like it, and, hey, we won't tell.

Shojo Confession

anime manga peach girl
The manga confession:

I have a confession…I’m absolutely obsessed with Shojo mangas right now. It started off innocently with Peach girl, to Mars and now Hot Gimmick. Currently I’m a girl on a mission, trying to discover more shojo titles to subdue my interest. Am I succeeding? Maybe! Has anyone read “Fushigi Yuugi” yet because I’m thinking of collecting that next after I’m done buying Paradise Kiss and Genshiken… (so far I have Paradise Kiss vol. 1 ordered at my local bookstore.)

Hana Yori Dango

Love that Hana Yori Dango, if you can download it.
I finally watched episode 2 of Hana Yori Dango. It took freaking forever to DL (like two days! DX) because there were more people downloading it than the # of seeds available. Episode 3 won’t take that long though, maybe like 4 hours. If I was DLing an http file it would take like one hour, man…darn bt. Although bittorrent can be useful sometimes. The scenes for ep 3 looked good though. :D

Review: Read Or Die

anime manga read or die
Good review of Read or Die manga here:

I always feel a little conflicted about manga adapted from anime. For whatever reason, I’m much more willing to watch anime adaptations of manga and I tend to be less enthusiastic about manga versions of anime. There are certain series where I’ll watch/read both versions (Kare Kano, Fruits Basket, Fullmetal Alchemist, etc) but I’ve never felt the need to seek out the manga versions of anime I’ve enjoyed like RahXephon, Cowboy Bebop, or Evangelion. Read or Die is an exception, as there was no way I wasn’t going to check out the further adventures of Yomiko Readman, special agent to the Library of England.
