Naruto On Cartoon Network
for those of you out there who haven’t watched the original naruto yet, i beg of you to watch it before watching the cartoon network version. please do not judge this great story by the diluted version cartoon network will release. i’m actually for children watching the watered down version, but i think adults who are interested in it (which is oddly cartoon network’s target audience) should read the manga and watch the original anime. i know i’ll watch the “americanized” version as well and get some enjoyment out of it, but i’ll always love the original.

Full Metal Alchemist
These last few days have bestowed upon me more good than I deserve. Basically, I’ve been doing nothing but working and seeing friends. It’s a dramatic change from before when all my free time (When I wasn’t making a feeble attempt to study for classes or working) was taken up by painting the basement. It’s very welcome. The peace between various engagements (I no longer have cause to hear the nagging voice that procrastinators are well acquainted with) has given me time to watch Full Metal Alchemist and finish Harry Potter (I mourn Dumbledore with a heavy heart… rest in peace, old friend). But the engagements itself were worth all the while.

Inuyasha, Kagome And Kikyou
In the end, I have a lot more respect for the character. I still don’t particularly like her. I’m a very outspoken fan of Inuyasha and Kagome, but I’m not a Kikyou-hater. What I realize now, though is that she is a very sympathetic character. I find her confusing still, though Sesshoumaru still holds the top prize for that description. I do understand a bit more about where she’s coming from and all of this has given a bit more light into her previous actions, like trying to suck Inuyasha into Hell or killing Kagome. In the end, she is incapable of moving on and you can’t hold that against her. She’s dead, it’s not like she has a choice in the matter!

SHUFFLE! For Playstation 2
Game wise, there’s the addition of 3 new scenarios for Mayumi Thyme, Kareha and the new character Tsupomi. Oh, and let’s not forget the new voices and event CG. Definitely looking forward to this, and a pre-order seems like a sensible idea for me to follow through. Likewise with all other fans of SHUFFLE!.

Anime Reviews
I finally watched Iriya no Sora – UFO no Natsu. It’s an OAV series and 5 out of 6 videos have been released. Overall rating so far? Great (3.5/5.0) The theme and tone is similar to Saikano, though not as dark. The pace holds it back from having an indubitable impact on the market. Iriya relies strongly on the speckled instances of tone that it delivers.Click through for more.

Comic Con
The Star Trek panel, about whether ST was dead, was kind of a waste. As the Con progressed I mostly just watched a lot of anime- everything from Tenjho Tenge to Wedding Peach (lmao), and viewed a lot of the display booths and exhibits. And picked up a bunch of free stuff. Free posters! I also went to a kung fu extravaganza thing, which was hilarious and awesome. It made me want to get Master of Tai Chi.

Anime North Reporting
The biggest event was proabably becoming the Convention Video Producer for Anime North 2005. This was primarily the reason why you didn’t see any coverage from that show this year because I was part of the staff of the show. lol.

End Of The Weekend
After a weekend full of fun, international friends and not much sleep, I returned yesterday to Breda to find Arno and IJdo at home. They’d already done some grocery shopping, and we watched Full Metal Alchemist (anime) and some Gundam anime until we were so tired we crashed into bed.

Review: Initial D
I managed to watch Initial D on tuesday night.
Much of a comic/anime/cartoon fan myself, the movie seemed interesting. A japanese manga made into HK style comedy, no doubt it is funny. Guys like Jay Chou and Edison Chen looks like they walked out of a comic book.

Doug bought me a present at BestBuy today — Full Metal Alchemist for the PS2! Since the sequel came out the price on the original has dropped, so it was a nice economical buy… Remind me to tell all of you FMA fans about Doug’s funny interpretation of transmutation *grin*

Comic-Con Here We Come!
I decided to partially Cosplay it - going for a generic anime fan look - so if anyone sights a woman in a hot pink wig with a pint-sized Incredibles girl with her, that would be me. And on Sunday I will the Goth cowgirl, if anyone cares. I never get to wear my clubbing clothes to actual dance clubs anymore, so geeky conventions are going to have to do!

Summertime
I’ve got a six week holiday coming up at the end of next week, and I can only pray that the weather stays like this for atleast a little of the time I’m off school. Best summer I’ve had in eons was the year before last: Pokemon Ruby on my GBA, four Harry Potter books, a garden easy-chair, and lots of sunshine. Unbeatable.

Fanfiction
I’ve always liked fan fictions, but I’ve never felt the drive to make one. Of course, back when I was 12 I always wrote Dragonball Z fan fictions, but what preteen Toonami watcher with a broad knowledge(for their age) of the internet didn’t? I’ve finally made up my mind, and I’m starting on a FLCL fan fiction.

Review: Naruto
If you are not a follower of anime like myself, it’s a wonder that I would fall for Naruto, but I did. Naruto is an anime/manga series that follow the path of a boy-ninja as he is developed from a lonely parentless outcast to a proud relentless ninja. His motto is “to never give up” regardless of the challenge in front of him.

Not An Anime Fan
But anime? I just don’t give a shit. I mean, yeah, Champloo was pretty awesome, but I’m still 4 episodes from the end and could care less if I ever finish it. The new Gunbuster is pretty and well animated, but the story is flat-out boring. Manga-derived anime tends to suck extra hard, especially compared to the comics, doubly so if the comics were really brilliant in some way. See also, Grenadier, Hellsing, Bleach, et al. There have been some cool movies, like the new Ghost in the Shell and Miyazaki’s latest several, but even then I watched them more from a film fan standpoint than as an anime fan.

Yami No Matsuei
The anime and manga Yami no Matsuei contain a quality storyline along with wonderful characters. One of my favorite characters is the mercilessly graceful Dr. Kazutaka Muraki, a surgeon with an obsession with the shinigami Asato Tsuzuki, due to his talents and power. The reasons that I enjoy Kazutaka as a character are numerous, but I’ll cover the main ones here.

Review: Bleach
This is such an awesome manga. No wonder it was considered Japan’s most popular manga ever read, because the characters are awesome!!! The way the story is played is a wee bit like Kare Kano, where the story plays all the roles of both the important characters and the new characters. There is a good slice for everyone in this manga. There is lots of action, comedy, trauma, and maybe a little romance, but it’s devilishly fun.

Da Capo
Back in its time, Da Capo was one of those animes that probably instigated the new wave, a sudden outburst of the popularity of bishoujo games being converted into anime. The game was made by a company named Circus, and I can only imagine how big the Da Capo franchise is to them. With already 7 games (maybe more) composed of rehashes, fandisks, after stories and console versions, Da Capo is huge on the games front. Not to mention all those singles, drama cds, and manga serializations. Da Capo is as big as any Dengeki G's series such as Futakoi.

Inuyasha Without Kagome
I feel like Inuyasha without Kagome. Raistlin without Crysania. And on nights like last night, there’s a good chance I will just get dragged further into my pool of melodrama, despondency, and loneliness because I do not have someone to temper me. Male or female, there isn’t anyone I call who will make me feel better. *shrug* It’s like I told Meggan a week or so ago just before she jumped me for having a pity-party: most of us don’t have many friends, or perhaps any friends. We just have enough acquaintances, hobbies, and jobs to distract us from the lack. Some of us will have 1 or 2 friends—if we’re lucky 3 or a few more—but when it’s 2 AM and the lights are out and we’re scared, alone, and feeling utterly horrible, who will we call? I pray, largely because I don’t have anyone to call. I probably wouldn’t be as tight with God right now if I had someone to call. That’s probably His intention, as Chris pointed out.

Otakon Planning
Looking forward to the trip to Vegas.. Also looking forward to seeing if my friends at work who are going to Otakon this year will be able to figure out what they are going to cosplay as… They want to do a group thing but there is a lot of resistance amongst the group.. (one person is always the odd person out on what they want to do…) as a result of this I’m back to debating doing cosplay for NDK this year… But I’m not sure… gotta find a character I can pull off… Kinda hard being male, with long hair and glasses… The glasses can be removed but I’m not cutting the hair… I like it too much…

Party Manga
It’s 7, no one’s here, which basically makes this a sausage party. A sausage party with the best goddamn guacamole in this town. AND guac chips. Plus, I got good booze. It’s free parking down here on Saturday nights! There’s some parking spots open right across the damn street! It’s a damn good reason to stop trashing your own place and trash someone else’s! I guess I need movies or something, I have some oldschool VHS flicks, but that might not go over too well. I have a crapload of first rate anime though. I’m inbetween showing the first two eps of Paranoia Agent…or the fourth One Piece movie. I wish I still had my Hellsing…damnit, I think my old roommate still has it. I invited the guy, he could at least show up with the shit he borrowed, as he should be running into that now, with him moving out this weekend.

Anime Influence
If you’ve browsed through my links list, a few of them might seem out of place (and maybe a few are). One such link is “anime news“. I’ve referred to it only once before because, while interesting, I still consider anime’s impact on industrial design to be rather low-level. However, as manufacturing and design increasingly head to Asian suppliers in the same countries where Japanese animation has been off-shored, anime’s influence on product design could grow significantly; and I mean in the sense beyond the obvious Japanimation spin-off toys (eg Pokemon, Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, etc). One example of how this kind of influence can be transferred is this computer mouse design created by Masamune Shiro, creator of the hugely popular Ghost in the Shell. As technology liberates designers from the tyranny of manufacturing constraints, this kind of crossover can only increase; more and more artists can move beyond images into tangible, manufacturable items.
